It was my turn to host a game this week for Nye and myself so I took Ravenfeast to club for some Viking raiding action between Mutt Bloodbeard and his neighbour Erik Erikson
We quickly knocked together a table with a long house for Erik and his retinue of Huskarls, Bondi and Thralls to defend against Bloodbeard's warband of Huskarls, Hirdmen and Bondi.
With our forces deployed Battle began.
Bloodbeard's Hirdmen make their way though the small woods atop the hill
Sensing movement in the woods some of Erik's Thrall's skirmish forward to investigate.
Over on the other flank Erik's other Thralls have left the compound and headed up to the treeline in search of Bloodbeard's other forces. They soon found them.
The delay to lose a flight of Javelins proved deadly
Bloodbeard and his Huskarls swept in putting them to the sword.
After launching Javins at the emerging Hirdmen Erik's remaining Thralls swiftly fall back as his Bondi form a Shieldwall.
A wise move that allows another volley before the two Shieldwall's clash
Over on the other flank Erik is facing attack from two directions
Eriks Bondi are able to retreat and redress their shield wall before Bloodbeard and his Huskarl slam into them, Eric and his huskarl rush forward to take on the Bondi coming over the wall.
Meanwhile on the other flank Bloodbeard's Hirdmen inflict catastrophic damage breaking the Shieldwall when they inflict multiple wounds and a "Death worthy of a Song" breaking the morale of all the men around most of whom flee the battle.
Fighting for his own life with his longhouse aflame and his men dying or running away Erik decides to flee the field vowing to seek his Vengeance on Bloodbeard.
A fast moving game, couldn't tell you how many turns because I lost count, that was fun to play. This will be coming back to club nights and might even get to try a multi-player game out. Definitely need to recruit some Archers soon and maybe some Saxons 😉
